I don't have a desktop machine, so will only use MBP. I'm not going for a 15'' as I need something small, portable, light and 15'' is too large in this case. Taking a closer look, I wouldn't consider any of the new MBP's. Resolution of the touchbar is small, but that's not all it will use RAM for.

I don't know how people can edit on a 13" screen. A refurb 15.4" 2015 model is probably the best value right now. I would go with a non-toucbar model, absolutely. Which is precious when using LR, PS, and Spotify. The touch bar has a resolution of 2170X60 which can't take that much of the memory. So, its is not that clear that it is overpriced (compared to the non-touch model).Īlong with the risk of things not really working correctly. So, basically, will a non-touchbar macbook pro, with the specs as above, fulfill my performance needs? Yes, I am aware it has 4 ports, but I think I'll manage with 2. I am not sure about a touchbar one because of the touch bar, which is a gimmick, might become annoying at some point and unreliable - physical buttons seem sturdier, it has shorter battery life and is more expensive. But is it really noticeable - and would it be noticeable with my needs(Lightroom, Chrome, Spotify, Photoshop at the same time)?

At first glance, touchbar one seems to be faster due to a processor and slightly better graphics. My question is whether to buy a non-touchbar model: 2.5GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, or a touchbar one: 3.5GHz i7, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. I expect it not to freeze, crash or lag significantly. I tend to multitask, so I sometimes have Lightroom, Chrome, Spotify and rarely Photoshop running at the same time. I'll use it mainly for Lightroom and Photoshop, working with 24MP RAW (Nikon D5500 for now).
